NDT X-Ray Technology Plays Significant Role for Bridge Construction

China opened the world’s longest sea-crossing bridge and tunnel on 23rd Oct of 2018. Which is named Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau bridge. It’s made up of nearly 35-km (22-mile) of bridge and road sections, and a 6.7 km (4-mile) tunnel between artificial islands to allow shipping to pass unhindered. Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) X-Ray technology is mandatory to applied for the metal Welding Joint Quality assurance as well as the reinforced concrete quality checking during such mega bridge construction.


This bridge cuts travel time from 3 hours to 30 minutes. It’s made of 420,000 tonnes of steel which is equivalent to 60 Eiffel Towers. There are countless steel pipe lines and connectors are used for this bridge. All the steel pipe lines and connectors have been done with the X-Ray inspection before delivery to the construction on site. It’s also necessary with X-Ray for welding joints inspection.
